People Can Fly, the gaming studio known for Outriders, has officially halted progress on its action-adventure title, Project Dagger. Initially unveiled in 2020 and planned for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the project faced setbacks after ending its publishing deal with Take-Two Interactive in 2022. The studio intended to self-publish the game but ultimately scrapped it due to concerns over its scale and market viability.
The decision was driven by a comprehensive reassessment of the company’s ongoing projects, which indicated that Project Dagger did not meet expected commercial or developmental goals. This led to a strategic pivot to reallocate resources and focus on more promising ventures.
Among its current initiatives, People Can Fly is working on Project Maverick, a multiplayer PvP shooter being developed in partnership with Microsoft and set within an established Xbox franchise. Another significant project, Project Gemini, is being scaled down following partnership adjustments with Square Enix. This realignment has, unfortunately, resulted in layoffs at the company.
Expanding their portfolio further, People Can Fly is venturing into virtual reality with a new IP and reportedly collaborating with Sony on an exclusive third-person shooter RPG for PlayStation. These diverse projects showcase the studio's willingness to explore and adapt to various gaming formats and partnerships following the cessation of Project Dagger.
