Global voice message player was a highly anticipated feature, and now we’re seeing that WhatsApp has activated it for iOS beta testers, allowing them to listen to their voice messages while switching between different chats. People have been always asking for a feature that would allow playing voice messages in the background, and it looks like it’s finally here. Furthermore, WhatsApp Business for iOS is also testing the same feature on some beta testers before releasing it to the public.
A number of beta testers have tweeted that this feature is part of the version 22.1.72 update for WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. Thanks to WABetaInfo, we have several screenshots that give us more info about the new global voice message player. According to these screenshots, the voice message player will be located at the top of the screen, while the user browses different chats, allowing them to pause playback or stop it entirely.
It should be noted that it is not guaranteed that people will be able to listen to their voice messages while moving to different chats, since we’re currently seeing only the beta version of this feature. The first time WhatsApp was seen developing this feature was back in October 2021, so global voice message player is at least four months in the making. Android beta testers have reported that this feature became available to them about a week prior to becoming available for iOS beta testers.
Are you excited that global voice message player will soon become available on both iOS and Android? Wasn’t it annoying that you couldn’t browse different chats while listening to your voice messages? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
