Twitter Works with Reuters & AP Against Misinformation

According to Twitter officials, the company decided to collaborate with both Reuters and AP in their breaking news highlights to provide accurate data. Another reason for this collaboration is to share the information quickly using Associated Press and Reuters sources. The announcement was made on Monday.

Multiple social companies struggle with tons of misinformation or fake news for years. Twitter is not a happy exception. The social media portal is a target for many gossipers and fake news spreaders. Since there are billions of tweets created by millions of users every day, Twitter finds it hard to track all the fakes that are spread. This year the company even launched the Birdwatch program. Its main goal is to check the facts in tweets. Birdwatch is supported by Twitter’s community who helps the company to identify scams.

The New Partnership

Twitter shared its plans to work with news portals when breaking news events appear. They promise to add the valid information that appears on Twitter from around the world. The tweets they will check must contain the label “Moment” or tags with a certain event. It is the first time for Twitter to collaborate with the news portals in order to provide more accurate data.

According to Twitter’s spokesperson, this social media network will have a separate approach to both Reuters and AP. These news portals do not interact with each other on Twitter. However, this collaboration will help both newswires a lot. Twitter usually reveals lots of tweets from the places or from the heart of events highlighted by Reuters and AP. With the removal of all disinformation, Twitter might provide the most needed data directly from witnesses of the events.

Both Reuters and AP officials are eager to collaborate with Twitter. They believe it speeds up the whole process of news sharing. Besides, it might shed light on all the sides of the event.
