WhatsApp seems to be largely investing in ephemeral conversations. For instance, in another attempt to enhance the app’s security and protect user privacy, Facebook-owned service is currently testing longer time-frame options for the disappearing messages functionality launched in 2020. The tool isn’t currently live, but it’s expected to roll out on the beta channel sometime soon.
After introducing the feature that allows messages within one-on-one conversations to vanish after seven days, What’sApp started working on setting a 90-day time limit for their automatically disappearing messages. The dev team behind the app has been putting 24-hour disappearing messages through their paces for a while now, but the possibility is still unavailable.
The concept of the disappearing messages is pretty straightforward. You should know that you can’t activate the feature for all your WhatsApp chats. Instead, it’s something you should activate for a particular chat within the program.
Don’t forget that although your messages will automatically vanish, the recipient has ‘all the time in the world’ (especially if we’re talking about a 90-day period) for screenshotting or saving-it-all locally. The company hasn’t yet revealed when or if the 90- or even 24-day option will make it to the stable build.
So, how do you like this move from WhatsApp? Do you think the app’s 90-day disappearing messages could really do any good to its users? What we mean is if you really care about your privacy, you should want your messages to ‘poof’ ASAP, and maybe even turn to the app’s new View Once tool for pics and vids. After 90 days, however, most users’ convos may totally slip their minds. Comment below if you want to express your opinion on the topic. We value your two cents greatly.
